Job description

United Kingdom Job Family Group: Information Technology (IT) Worker Type: Regular Posting Start Date: October 27, 2026 Business Unit: Experience Level: Experienced Professionals

What's the role

Some strategy roles end when the presentation is delivered. This one gives you the opportunity to shape the decision, build alignment around it and help set the organisation up to turn it into action. As a Senior Consultant, you will lead complex engagements addressing important technology, digital, data and AI questions. You will work directly with senior business and technology leaders, bring structure to ambiguity and translate rigorous analysis into choices that influence priorities, investments and transformation. You will also help strengthen the practice by developing colleagues, improving our methods and bringing relevant external insight into Shell. Because we advise Shell on AI, we hold ourselves to using it first: you will help reimagine how strategy work is done, applying AI to research, analysis and synthesis on every engagement.

What you'll be doing
  • Lead strategy engagements or major workstreams from sponsor framing through decision and transition to delivery.
  • Apply structured problem solving, scenario planning and decision analysis to complex and uncertain questions.
  • Analyse business priorities, technology portfolios, industry trends and emerging technologies to develop actionable insight.
  • Develop strategic options, opportunity assessments, business cases, value hypotheses and investment recommendations.
  • Design and apply AI-enabled approaches across engagements, using AI to accelerate research, deepen analysis and test options, and applying the judgement to validate outputs and recognise where they fall short.
  • Shape IT strategies, operating models, capability assessments, portfolio choices and digital, data and AI transformation roadmaps.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops that create alignment and move decisions forward.
  • Build and lead multidisciplinary teams across Businesses, Functions, IDT and external partners.
  • Communicate complex findings through clear, evidence-led executive narratives.
  • Coach colleagues, including in the effective use of AI, and contribute to consulting methods, reusable tools, knowledge, quality and thought leadership.
What you bring
  • A strong record of delivering technology, digital, data, AI or business strategy engagements for senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced structured problem‑solving, strategy consulting, opportunity assessment and business case development skills.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capability, with the ability to work effectively with incomplete or competing evidence.
  • Practical experience using AI tools to improve the speed and quality of analytical or consulting work, with a critical eye for accuracy, bias and confidentiality.
  • Excellent strategic storytelling, executive communication, workshop facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial and technology judgement across several relevant areas, such as IT strategy, operating models, capability assessment, portfolio management, digital transformation, data and AI, cost optimisation or enterprise architecture.
  • Experience leading projects, workstreams and multidisciplinary teams and translating strategy into practical action.
  • Curiosity, pragmatism and the confidence to challenge constructively without relying on formal authority.
How the scope flexes

Responsibilities will reflect experience, from leading substantial workstreams to owning complex engagements, managing senior stakeholders independently and coaching colleagues. Appointment level will reflect relevant experience, autonomy and demonstrated impact.

A note on grading

We welcome candidates with a range of relevant experience. Appointments will be determined through the selection process based on the scale and complexity of experience, analytical depth, leadership, autonomy and impact demonstrated.

Why join us

Enterprise-scale work with visible impact on material choices and transformation priorities. Direct access to senior decision-makers and complex, consequential problems. Varied, high-impact assignments across a broad range of enterprise challenges. The opportunity to combine analytical depth, facilitation and influence with strategy-to-execution experience. The chance to help shape an AI-enabled consulting practice and build the skills that will define the next generation of strategy work. A global consulting community where high-quality thinking, collaboration and constructive challenge are valued.

How success will be recognised

You will help leaders make clearer, faster and better-evidenced choices; create alignment across enterprise, domain and portfolio priorities; raise the speed and quality of the practice’s work through AI; and leave both client teams and the practice stronger.

What we offer
  • You bring your skills and experience to Shell and in return you work with talented, committed people on one of the most important challenges facing our planet.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to develop the skills you need to grow in an environment where we value honesty, integrity, and respect for one another.
  • Continuously grow the transferable skills you need to get ahead.

  • Collaborate with experienced colleagues with unique expertise.
  • Achieve your balance in a values-led culture that encourages you to be the best version of yourself.
  • Competitive pay and benefits packages.
  • Take advantage of paid parental leave, including for non-birthing parents.
  • Join an organisation working to become one of the world’s most diverse and inclusive companies.
  • We strongly encourage applicants of all genders, ages, ethnicities, cultures, abilities, sexual orientation, and life experiences to apply.
  • Grow as you progress through diverse career opportunities in national and international teams.
  • Gain access to a wide range of training and development programmes.
