A client of Melbury Wood is recruiting an experienced and strategically-minded Senior Consultant to join their growing team. This role is ideal for someone with 4–6 years of experience in public affairs with some previous agency experience necessary. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering client strategy, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to business development and the overall growth of the practice. Operating as a senior member of the team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring client satisfaction across sectors including energy, financial services, sport, and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of bespoke political and stakeholder engagement strategies for clients
  • Act as a senior advisor and primary contact for multiple clients, ensuring high-quality, consistent service
  • Monitor and interpret political, policy, and regulatory developments, providing strategic counsel and timely insight
  • Draft and oversee the production of high-impact communications, including briefings, reports, and consultation responses
  • Mentor and support junior colleagues, helping to build their skills and confidence through on-the-job coaching and structured development
  • Motivate and guide project teams to deliver excellence, encouraging collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Represent the consultancy at high-level stakeholder meetings, political events, and industry forums
  • Contribute significantly to business development supporting proposals, leading pitches, identifying opportunities, and building relationships with prospective clients
  • Play an active role in shaping the agency’s internal thinking and external presence, contributing to thought leadership and innovation

Key Skills & Experience:

  • 4–6 years’ experience in public affairs
  • Deep knowledge of the UK political and policymaking landscape, including experience engaging with parliamentarians, government departments, and regulators
  • Demonstrated ability to lead client accounts and manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to bring out the best in junior team members
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development and pitch leadership
  • A collaborative mindset with the confidence to take initiative and contribute to wider agency goals
