Job summary

Michael Taylor Search & Selection are recruiting a Senior Construction Manager to lead key packages on a major £100m+ data centre development in Harlow, Essex. You will manage internal fit-out and specialist construction works, coordinating white walling and drylining while maintaining programme and safety standards.

Reporting to the Construction Director, you’ll oversee multiple subcontractors, lead daily briefings and ensure interfaces between construction and MEP packages run smoothly.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering complex new-build projects.
• Strong internal fit-out experience (drylining, white walling).
• Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and trades.
• Data centre or critical environment experience essential.
• Willingness to support weekend working when required.

Responsibilities

• Manage construction packages through the internal fit-out phase, including 6-metre-high white walling
• Coordinate subcontractors, specialist trades and site activities
• Lead daily activity briefings and maintain clear communication across packages
• Conduct regular site walkrounds, monitoring progress and identifying potential issues
• Manage site logistics, including sequencing, deliveries, access and material flow
• Monitor programme progress and address delays or constraints while upholding health and safety standards
• Work with construction and MEP teams to ensure interface management
• Participate in weekend working rota when required

Senior Construction Manager - Data Centre

Location: Harlow, Essex

Rate: £375 £400 per day

Contract: Temporary, 6 months + potential extension

Hours: 7:00/7:30a4:30 pm - 4:30 pm, with flexibility for weekend rota

The Opportunity

We are working with a leading engineering and construction consultancy to appoint a Senior Construction Manager to join a major £100m+ data centre development in Harlow, Essex.

This is a significant new-build project forming the third facility on an established data centre campus, incorporating two data hall floors, a ground-floor plant room and extensive associated infrastructure. The project is being delivered on a Design & Build basis across both construction and MEP packages.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Construction Manager to take ownership of key packages during a critical stage of the programme, with a particular focus on internal fit-out and specialist construction works.

The Role

Reporting to the Construction Director and Lead Construction Project Manager, you will take responsibility for delivering specific construction packages safely, efficiently and to programme.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment, coordinating multiple subcontractors and trades while maintaining strong standards across safety, quality, logistics and programme delivery.

• Monitor programme progress and proactively address delays or constraintsMaintain high standards of health, safety and welfare in accordance with CDM and project requirements
• Work closely with the wider construction and MEP teams to ensure effective interface management
• Participate in the project s weekend working rota when required

About You

We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager / Senior Construction Manager / with a strong track record delivering complex new-build projects.

You will ideally have:

• Proven experience managing construction packages on major projects
• Strong internal fit-out experience, particularly drylining, white walling or similar specialist packages
• Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and trades
• Confidence leading daily briefings and managing site-based teams
• A strong understanding of construction health & safety requirements
• Excellent organisational, communication and coordination skills
• Previous data centre or critical environment experience essential
• Flexibility to support weekend working when required
