Job summary

Proactive Global is recruiting a Senior Construction Manager to oversee scenic construction and fabrication for large-scale events and bespoke installations in a fast-paced creative production environment.

You will lead workshop teams, coordinate production activities, cost fabrication projects and ensure delivery within timescales and budgets while maintaining high-quality standards across all activities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in scenic construction or events.
• Able to read technical drawings and 3D models.
• Experience with budgeting and resource planning.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage scenic construction and fabrication projects from workshop to completion.
• Supervise workshop teams, manage workloads, resources and deadlines.
• Own projects and coordinate activity to meet timescales and budgets.
• Accurately estimate and cost fabrication projects including materials and labour.
• Manage project budgets and financial reconciliation.
• Identify and resolve technical challenges during fabrication and construction.
• Develop practical solutions to complex problems.
• Interpret drawings, plans and elevations to ensure accuracy.
• Plan fabrication and assembly processes with production teams.
• Ensure information is clearly communicated and documented.
• Maintain high quality across workshop and fabrication activities.
• Oversee machinery maintenance and servicing with workshop management.
• Support development and progression of workshop technicians and juniors.
• Build strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers and clients.
• Assist with planning and delivery of complex installations and large-scale fabrication.
• Safely handle large, complex fabricated structures.

Job description

Proactive are currently recruiting for a Senior Construction Manager to join a fast-paced and innovative creative production business specialising in large-scale events, experiential projects and bespoke fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage scenic construction and fabrication projects through the workshop from initial production to completion
• Supervise and support workshop teams on a day-to-day basis, ensuring workloads, resources and deadlines are effectively managed
• Take ownership of assigned projects, coordinating production activity to ensure delivery against agreed timescales and budgets
• Accurately estimate and cost fabrication projects, taking into account materials, labour and production requirements
• Manage project budgets effectively, monitoring expenditure and ensuring accurate financial reconciliation
• Identify and resolve technical challenges throughout the fabrication and construction process
• Develop practical solutions to complex construction and fabrication problems
• Interpret technical drawings, models, plans and elevations to ensure work is produced accurately and to the required standard
• Work closely with production managers, designers and technical teams to plan fabrication and assembly processes
• Ensure technical information and assembly requirements are clearly communicated and documented
• Maintain high standards of quality across all workshop and fabrication activities
• Work closely with workshop management to ensure machinery and equipment are appropriately maintained and serviced
• Support the development, training and progression of workshop technicians and junior team members
• Build effective working relationships with internal teams, suppliers, clients and external production partners
• Assist with the planning and delivery of complex installations, fit-ups and large-scale fabrication projects where required
• Safely handle and manoeuvre large, complex and intricate fabricated structures and scenery

Skills

• Minimum 5 years' experience within a scenic construction, event production, exhibition, theatre or specialist fabrication environment
• Strong practical carpentry and/or metalwork skills
• Strong understanding of materials, construction methods and fabrication techniques used within events or creative production
• Good understanding of project costing, budgets and resource managementAbility to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, elevations and 3D models
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make effective decisions under pressure
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Confident leading and supporting a diverse workshop team
• Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a workshop, events, theatre or construction environment
• High attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality
• Proactive approach with a willingness to develop new skills and improve working practices
• Confident working independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider production team
• Experience with CAD or other technical design software would be advantageous
• Forklift experience would be advantageous
