Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking a Senior Configuration and Change Control Engineer to lead and govern configuration management across defence programmes. You will own the Configuration Management Plan, ensure traceability from requirements to delivery, and drive governance for changes using TCU as the authoritative data source.

You will collaborate across engineering, systems, quality and manufacturing, mentoring junior staff and supporting audits while upholding data integrity and security.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in configuration and change control within defence, aerospace, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Proven experience authoring and maintaining Configuration Management Plans.
  • Excellent knowledge of configuration management principles, baseline control, and change classification (Class I / Class II).
  • Extensive experience using TCU or similar Tool for configuration and change control.
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory engagement.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with classified and export‑controlled information.

Your Impact Do you want to play a hands‑on role in protecting the integrity of cutting‑edge technologies that help keep people safe? We are looking for a Senior Configuration and Change Control Engineer to join our Electronics Warfare (EW) and Combat Air (CA) Design Integrity team. Reporting to the Lead Configuration and Change Manager, you will provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise in configuration and change control across defence and aerospace programmes.

As the Senior Configuration and Change Control Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing and assuring configuration management arrangements throughout the product lifecycle, using TCU as the authoritative configuration and change control tool. As the Configuration Management lead for assigned programmes, you will own the Configuration Management Plan (CMP), ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory and organisational requirements, while driving best practice, governance, audit readiness and effective change control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and implement configuration management strategies in line with organisational policies and industry standards.
  • Identify, control and maintain Configuration Items (CIs) and configuration baselines across the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure end‑to‑end traceability between requirements, design, verification and delivered products.
  • Own, maintain and govern the Configuration Management Plan (CMP), ensuring ongoing compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the focal point and technical authority for configuration management activities within assigned programmes.
  • Lead and govern configuration and change control processes using TCU as the authoritative source of configuration data.
  • Support or chair Change Control Boards (CCBs), ensuring robust assessment and approval of proposed changes.
  • Manage Class I and II changes, concessions, deviations, waivers and temporary changes, ensuring full traceability and impact assessment.
  • Define and promote best practice for TCU data structures, workflows, status accounting and reporting.
  • Ensure data integrity, access control, security classification and export control compliance.
  • Ensure configuration and change control activities comply with contractual, regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Prepare for and support internal, customer and regulatory audits, including Functional and Physical Configuration Audits (FCA/PCA).
  • Provide configuration status accounting, metrics and management reporting.
  • Support configuration activities across design, development, manufacture, in‑service support, modification and obsolescence programmes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, systems, quality, safety, manufacturing, supply chain and programme teams.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide training and guidance on configuration management principles, processes and TCU usage.
What you’ll bring
Essential
  • Significant experience in configuration and change control within defence, aerospace, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Proven experience authoring and maintaining Configuration Management Plans.
  • Excellent knowledge of configuration management principles, baseline control, and change classification (Class I / Class II).
  • Extensive experience using TCU or similar Tool for configuration and change control.
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory engagement.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with classified and export‑controlled information.
Desirable
  • Experience managing complex systems involving hardware, software, and firmware.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness, safety‑critical systems, or certification processes.
  • Familiarity with additional PLM/CM tools (e.g. Windchill, Teamcenter, Dimensions).
  • Experience defining or improving organisational CM and CC procedures.
