Job summary

McLaren Racing in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Composite Design Engineer to create conceptual and detailed designs for composite and metallic Formula 1 car components across bodywork, wings, floors and crash structures.

You will design manufacturing tooling, jigs, test rigs and rig parts to turn concepts into race-ready solutions, taking ownership from brief to delivery while meeting critical deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Proven experience designing components within Formula 1 or similar fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of composite and metallic materials and tooling design.
  • Experience with CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE and standard MS Office tools.

Responsibilities

Job description

As a Senior Composite Design Engineer within our Bodywork Design team, you will create conceptual and detailed designs for composite and metallic Formula 1 car components. Working across bodywork, wings, floors and crash structures, you will also design the manufacturing tooling and rig parts required to turn innovative concepts into race-ready solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Deliver conceptual and detailed designs for composite and metallic car components, including bodywork, wings, floors and crash structures.
  • Design the manufacturing tooling, jig components, test jigs and rig parts required to support production and validation.
  • Take ownership of projects from initial brief through to successful delivery, working accurately and at pace.
  • Investigate reliability issues and component faults, developing effective design solutions and supporting other areas of the car when required.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the team, following established design processes and best practice to meet critical deadlines.

Qualifications
  • A degree in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience designing relevant components within Formula 1 or a similarly fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of racing car components and systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of composite and metallic materials, manufacturing techniques and tooling design.
  • A high level of proficiency in CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE, with practical Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
