Senior Compliance and Risk Lawyer

An international law firm is seeking an experienced risk and compliance lawyer or a corporate/commercial lawyer to join their in-house general counsel team. The role involves managing contracts and corporate documentation, ensuring compliance with external standards and internal policies, and collaborating with various teams to update and improve firm policies in line with relevant regulations.

Role and Responsibilities

• Advising on SRA regulatory requirements
• Drafting and updating client engagement letters and standard terms of business
• Advising on outside counsel guidelines and bespoke client terms
• Providing legal risk input on client pitches, RfPs, and panel applications
• Reviewing and negotiating supplier contracts with the Head of Procurement
• Drafting corporate documents, member resolutions, and intra-group agreements
• Drafting consultancy agreements
• Updating firm policies
• Assisting with regulatory engagement
• Advising on complex conflict issues
• Advising on engagement terms with barristers, expert witnesses, and local counsel
• Supporting strategic risk management initiatives with the Head of Corporate Risk and General Counsel
• Auditing files for compliance with regulatory requirements
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory obligations, including SRA Standards and Regulations

Skills and Experience

• Qualified lawyer with at least five years’ experience, preferably in commercial or corporate law
• Experience gained in fee-earning or in-house roles
• Experience negotiating commercial contracts, including data protection terms
• Knowledge of SRA Code of Conduct
• Motivated to develop expertise in UK and international regulatory requirements
• Understanding conflicts of interest and resolution is advantageous but not essential
