Citizens Advice offers confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. Through our national network of charities, we give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward whoever they are, and whatever their problem.

We're on the lookout for a creative events lead to join our team in a unique role that blends producing, programming, production, and participation!

This is a rare opportunity to take a creative approach to participatory engagement, and we're open to candidates from a wide range of sectors. Whether your background is in a creative organisation, charity, community initiative, arts production, think tank, conference team, or something similarly values-led, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

You'll lead on our diverse events programme, focusing on participatory engagement to shape and deliver a collaborative events series that centres the voices of our clients and our network of Local Citizens Advice charities.

You should have experience in co-creation practice and understand the many ways participation can be applied within different groups and in different settings.

You’ll have a strong track record in issues-based programming, with experience engaging and retaining audiences. This role will see you working on small workshops to large-scale events, so you’ll have experience producing across a range of formats and scales.

We’re Looking for Someone Who:
  • Has worked in creative or community organisations, charities, or events with a focus on arts, social justice or civic engagement.
  • Has experience producing events, from small groups to more complex productions.
  • Brings a strong understanding of co-creation and participation in practice, and is excited by new and creative approaches to doing this work.
  • Is passionate about audience engagement across different formats and is dedicated to driving meaningful change through participatory events.
  • Has a strategic mindset, but loves to get stuck in with delivery too.

This is a one-of-a-kind role ideal for someone who thrives in cross-disciplinary environments and is looking to make a meaningful impact through creative and participatory work.

Do you want to work for an organisation that makes a difference, every single day, to people from all walks of life? The people who turn to Citizens Advice need help overcoming an obstacle in their lives from debt to evictions to trouble at work and you can be key to them getting the support they need in the quickest, easiest, and most effective way.

Please apply with your CV and cover letter highlighting the below essential criteria:

  • Significant experience producing participatory programmes, ideally within creative and/or community-based contexts, and able to lead and advise on the organisational approach on participatory engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, organising, and delivering impactful events, from small workshops to large-scale gatherings, both online and in person.
  • Seasoned facilitator with experience of applying participatory practice and approaches.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is of strategic importance within the organisation and recognised as integral to all we do as a service.

Central to pursuing our EDI mission is building diverse and inclusive teams in which everyone has a sense of belonging. We believe inclusion is a social justice issue - a principle that underpins our all EDI work. To that end, we particularly welcome applications from people we would like to see better represented in our organisation and sector - people of colour, LGBTQ+ people, and disabled people. We follow the social model of disability. We will offer an interview to disabled candidates who indicate they wish their application to be considered under our Disability Confident Interview Commitment where they meet our selection criteria in their application.

We’re a flexible employer, so this role may suit anyone who’d prefer a flexible arrangement to help their work/life balance, many of our colleagues spend most of their time working remotely. While we prefer a blended approach between a local office, if one is near you, and home we’re open to being flexible on location, occasionally a role may require you to be based in a certain location if that's the case it will be detailed in the advert or job description. This can be discussed in more detail during your interview.
