Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Senior Communications Engineer to lead delivery of cutting-edge military satellite communications for maritime platforms. The role supports the UK MOD's modernised satellite network, ensuring secure, reliable, future-ready systems that strengthen national security and defend operations.

The position involves testing, installation, and maintenance across Corsham, Bristol, and Plymouth sites with hybrid working. A degree is required; CCNA is preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in engineering required.
• CCNA preferred or demonstrable experience at this level.
• Experience with MILSATCOM and RF equipment on maritime platforms is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Testing and commissioning equipment to meet UK security standards.
• Manage obsolescence and evolving security requirements.
• Collaborate with internal/external teams to deliver seamless comms solutions.
• Install and configure IP networks and RF equipment on maritime platforms, surface and sub-surface.
• Respond to network incidents and provide third-line support for maritime customers.

The Role

As a Senior Communications Engineer, you'll be at the heart of delivering cutting-edge military satellite communication solutions for maritime platforms. This is your chance to work on the UK MOD's modernised satellite network, supporting national security and global defence operations. Your expertise will help ensure mission-critical systems remain secure, reliable, and future-ready making a real difference to the safety of our armed forces and the resilience of our nation.

Day-to-day, you'll have the following responsibilities:

• Testing and commissioning new equipment and services to meet UK security standards.
• Managing obsolescence and ensuring compliance with evolving security requirements.
• Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver seamless communication solutions.
• Installing and configuring IP networks and RF equipment on surface and sub-surface maritime platforms.
• Responding to network incidents and providing third-line support for maritime customers.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days onsite and days working from home depending on business requirements. The candidate for this role can be based from Corsham, Bristol or Plymouth.

Essential experience of the Senior Communications Engineer

• Background in telecommunications or satellite communications.
• Familiarity with systems engineering lifecycle and serial communication services.
• Installation of network and RF equipment on maritime platforms.
• Delivery of MILSATCOM solutions to maritime environments.
• Strong knowledge of IP network architectures.

Qualifications for the Senior Communications Engineer

• Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Cisco Professional (CCNA) certification preferred, or demonstrable experience at this level.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. You may potentially be required to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance in the future.
