Job Description
Responsibilities in this role may include:
- Responsible for ensuring decision–making processes and procedures are in place and managing the depth of knowledge of policies and procedures for meetings of the Client.
- Responsible for ensuring arrangements are in place in line with corporate policies to facilitate meetings of the Client.
- Interpret and lead on providing clear, in-depth, and accurate constitutional advice to elected members and senior officers to ensure decision-making is lawful and aligned with the Client’s constitution.
- Work alongside the Democratic Services Manager in developing and monitoring corporate standards and maintaining high governance standards throughout the organization.
- Write clear reports related to Democratic Services functions and present these to the Client's committees, responding appropriately to questions from elected officials.
- Assist the Democratic Services Manager in training members and officers regarding the Client's decision-making processes.
- Research and stay informed about legislation, regulations, and guidance concerning the democratic process, including collaboration with peers from other authorities and organizations like the Association of Democratic Services Officers (ADSO).
- Challenge and improve existing working practices and processes in line with council priorities and governance models.
Person Specification: INTERIM SENIOR COMMITTEE MANAGER
Essential Experience:
- Extensive experience working in Democratic and Committee Services, with knowledge of governance structures similar to a Client’s constitution.
- Ability to interpret local government legislation related to governance and explain the implications of decisions to members and officers.
- Significant experience working with elected members and senior officers within local government settings.
