Job Description

Responsibilities in this role may include:

  1. Responsible for ensuring decision–making processes and procedures are in place and managing the depth of knowledge of policies and procedures for meetings of the Client.
  2. Responsible for ensuring arrangements are in place in line with corporate policies to facilitate meetings of the Client.
  3. Interpret and lead on providing clear, in-depth, and accurate constitutional advice to elected members and senior officers to ensure decision-making is lawful and aligned with the Client’s constitution.
  4. Work alongside the Democratic Services Manager in developing and monitoring corporate standards and maintaining high governance standards throughout the organization.
  5. Write clear reports related to Democratic Services functions and present these to the Client's committees, responding appropriately to questions from elected officials.
  6. Assist the Democratic Services Manager in training members and officers regarding the Client's decision-making processes.
  7. Research and stay informed about legislation, regulations, and guidance concerning the democratic process, including collaboration with peers from other authorities and organizations like the Association of Democratic Services Officers (ADSO).
  8. Challenge and improve existing working practices and processes in line with council priorities and governance models.
Person Specification: INTERIM SENIOR COMMITTEE MANAGER

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive experience working in Democratic and Committee Services, with knowledge of governance structures similar to a Client’s constitution.
  • Ability to interpret local government legislation related to governance and explain the implications of decisions to members and officers.
  • Significant experience working with elected members and senior officers within local government settings.
