The role
As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll conduct the role of shift manager, leading a team of skilled engineers to carry out the inspection, testing and commissioning of submarine systems. Overseeing fault finding diagnosis and proposing and implementing corrective solutions. This is a long-term project, supporting the deep maintenance of Astute class Submarines and future successors.

Day-to-day, you’ll be supporting commissioning activities to ensure the systems perform to the highest standards of safety in your discipline (Mechanical, Electrical or Constructive). You’ll also:

1. Lead a team of skilled engineers to carry out the inspection, testing and commissioning of submarine systems, overseeing fault finding diagnosis and proposing and implementing corrective solutions where required.
2. Design, implement and authorise safe isolations to allow intrusive work on submarine systems in accordance with safe system of work management arrangements.
3. Research, compile and authorise technical documentation to support commissioning activities and deliverables.
4. Report to your manager and adhere to the Health and Safety at Work regulations and conform to appropriate Engineering Quality and Nuclear standards.
5. Provide leadership, direction and supervision to a team of Commissioning Engineers, including pastoral support and professional development.
6. Promote and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Royal Navy, Ministry of Defence and subcontractors.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard. The successful candidate will be expected to work a flexible schedule, including shifts, as required.

Experience of the Senior Commissioning Engineer:

1. Extensive experience in an engineering role/discipline (Electrical, Mechanical or Constructive).
2. Experience of using technical system drawings and associated documentation.
3. Knowledge of Commissioning principles & processes including isolation methodologies – highly desirable.
4. Knowledge and experience of submarine operation and/or maintenance – desirable.

Qualifications for the Senior Commissioning Engineer:

1. Completed a recognised Level 4 qualification/Engineering Apprenticeship.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
