A market-leading educational publisher, based in Ireland, is seeking a proactive and commercially-minded Senior Commissioning Editor to join their supportive and friendly publishing team. This role offers hybrid working based out of the company's fantastic, new Dublin office (reachable by public transport), and a competitive salary alongside an excellent opportunity to take on a varied and valuable role as Senior Commissioning Editor within a highly successful and growing publishing organisation.
Reporting to the Publisher, the Senior Commissioning Editor will play a pivotal role in the team, and undertake research and source the best authors to create market-led proposals to meet Secondary school classroom needs across various subject areas.
Responsibilities will include (amongst others):
·Research markets and develop new series' and titles
·Manage author relationships; source and commission new authors and ensure they work to agreed specifications and submission dates
·Review, develop and manage new content submissions in line with subject specification and assessment requirements, and identified market needs
·Recruit, manage and mentor content reviewers and ensure they work to agreed dates and specifications and provide beneficial feedback on products in development
·Prepare briefing documents and provide suitable ongoing guidance to editorial, production, digital and design staff working on your projects
·Monitor progress of projects from submission through to launch through regular updates
·Proactively manage potential issues such as slippage, extent, and otherwise, suggesting solutions to blockers
·Work with Sales & Marketing departments to ensure product USPs and important features are accurately relayed to customers and engage with market feedback
·Report regularly to management and escalate queries and issues as need arises
·Develop beneficial working relationships with departments and colleagues across the company, and act as the owner for your projects to ensure they match their original specifications, meet their deadlines and achieve their value potential
·Attend relevant conferences, book fairs, exhibitions and meetings and develop a network of key educational contacts
Key skills include:
·Solid Editorial experience in Educational Publishing including Commissioning
·Relationship-building skills
·Commercial acumen
·Time and project management skills
·Some experience of managing or mentoring freelance or in-house editorial staff
·Teaching experience would be desirable
