Qualifications

Job Description:

A key role in the commercialisation and strategy of Life Sciences commercialisation for Queen Mary Innovation.

What you'll be doing:

The Senior Commercialisation Manager is an important position in the Biopharma team of Queen Mary Innovation, playing a significant role in initiating and maintaining an effective commercialisation strategy for opportunities principally from the Barts and London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The post-holder will contribute to the delivery of a range of outputs including technology disclosures, protection of university IP, licence and investment transactions, and new venture formation.

Role and responsibilities include:

  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with the university’s academic and research community to stimulate awareness of IP issues and commercial opportunities, and to encourage an innovative and entrepreneurial culture within the University.
  • Engage in technology licensing and new venture formation processes; in particular leading on structuring, negotiating and closing deals.
  • Analyse and evaluate the commercial potential of IP and commercial opportunities to develop appropriate commercialisation approaches.
  • Advise academics on, and execute, the best mode of protection for University IP.
  • Administer appropriate QMUL funds to support innovation and commercial activity.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry, venture capital organisations and angel networks and appropriately market University IP to identify and engage commercial exploitation partners/investors.
  • Liaise with colleagues in the Biopharma team and QMI, and with senior managers across the university, to contribute to the development of good practice in commercialisation of University.

What experience you'll need:

  • A strong academic background in Medical or Life Sciences.
  • Proven experience in the management of Life Science related Technology Transfer or Commercialisation processes, with deal completion in any of IP Licencing, company formation (start-ups/spin-outs) or have taken a start-up through to Series B, C or higher. It would be desirable to have worked within a TTO previously.
  • Excellent team working, knowledge sharing and a supportive nature.
  • Any experience in Bioinformatics, Biomarkers, Clinical AI, Drug development pathways or medical device development with be beneficial but not essential.
