Our client is a leading Software-as-a-Service provider for the general insurance industry, with a strong presence in the UK and a growing international footprint. Their platform supports over 100,000 users across more than 40 countries, managing transactions worth over £15Bn annually. They are committed to innovation and excellence and are looking for a Senior Commercial Technology Lawyer to join their dynamic team.
Position Overview: As a Senior Commercial Technology Lawyer, the successful candidate will provide the group, including entities in Europe and North America, with legal advice on commercial contracts, IT/IP/AI data issues, data protection (including GDPR), and other regulatory matters. They will work closely with senior stakeholders to shape commercial decisions and support the continued growth of the business.
Responsibilities:
- Advise on legal implications of business activities, including system enhancements, AI, and international expansion.
- Structure, negotiate, draft, review, and advise on a range of commercial technology contracts.
- Provide guidance on data issues, particularly GDPR, and IP elements of service offerings.
- Develop new template documents for service offerings.
- Plan and implement legal workflows and improvements.
- Stay updated on legal developments and update templates and policies accordingly.
- Build relationships of trust with client areas and understand business needs.
- Manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment.
- Provide contract/legal development training to the business.
- Report to and support the Group General Counsel.
- Mentor mid-level and junior members of the legal team.
Candidate Profile:
- UK Qualified Lawyer with a strong academic background.
- 6-8 years post-qualification experience.
- Strong private practice training at a reputable law firm.
- In-house experience required; experience in software or new technology is desirable.
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a commercial environment and understand business needs.
- Strong commercial acumen and motivation to contribute to business success.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Desire to work proactively in a dynamic legal team with direct access to senior decision-makers.
