Job summary

Southern Water is seeking a Commercial Manager (Senior Quantity Surveyor) to lead cost management across high-value contracts. You will partner with project teams, provide commercial assurance, and drive pre/post contract activities under NEC frameworks.

The role requires strong leadership, risk awareness, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders. Based in Chichester/Worthing, it offers real opportunities to shape commercial outcomes and maximise value for major infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying or equivalent.
• Solid commercial management experience, preferably in water/utilities.
• Knowledge of NEC contracts and standard forms.
• MRICS designation desirable, or plan to attain full membership.
• Proficient MS Excel and PowerPoint usage.
• Strong cost management, risk and supplier management experience.
• Experience with contract terms, governance and project lifecycles.

Responsibilities

• Support the Senior Commercial Manager in pre/post contract processes for high-value contracts.
• Provide commercial guidance, manage cost variances, and advise on contract difficulties.
• Partner with procurement, project and field teams on contract strategy and pre-contract assurance.
• Develop audit procedures and support site audits to drive value and compliance.
• Assist with setting target costs and working with contractors to manage risks.
