Job description

Randstad are looking for a Senior Commercial Manager to work for a renowned Main Tier Construction Company on the Thames Water AMP Framework.

This role is ideal for a proactive leader with extensive hands-on experience who can identify and manage commercial risks effectively while ensuring full compliance with company governance and contract requirements. You will be instrumental in delivering our Commercial Objectives, leading high-performing teams, and building strong relationships both inside and outside the company.

This is a freelance role expected to last 6 months - Paid LTD (Outside IR35)

Based in Central London - Liverpool Street

Previous Construction Water Experience on the AMP framework is highly desirable

What You'll Do:

  • Lead commercial activities during project bid and work-winning phases.

  • Oversee allocation and management of commercial resources across multiple project teams.

  • Manage commercial staff handling contract administration, supply chain and subcontractor management, document control, cost capture and reporting (including CLRs), and programme planning.

  • Ensure valuations and commercial reports are delivered promptly and align with contract deadlines.

  • Monitor cash flow and financial risk across projects.

  • Lead negotiations and maintain collaborative relationships with clients' commercial and project teams.

  • Enforce adherence to company policies, contract obligations, and commercial procedures.

  • Maintain accurate commercial records and proactively resolve contractual issues.

  • Mentor and develop commercial team members, supporting recruitment and onboarding.

  • Provide expert commercial advice to Contract Leaders and Sector Managers.

  • Drive consistency in commercial processes sector-wide.

  • Manage project insurance and risk assessments.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen with strategic, analytical, and solution-focused thinking.

  • Expertise in document management systems and contract correspondence.

  • Skilled in collaborative negotiation, commercial reporting, and minute-taking.

Desirable:

  • Minimum 7 years' commercial experience post-graduation in construction.

  • Proven success in procurement strategy and contract management.

  • Demonstrated leadership and negotiation abilities.

  • Solid understanding of legal, contractual, and construction industry standards.

  • Experience driving strategic change and innovation.

  • Calm, resilient leadership under pressure aligned with our culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Degree accredited by RICS or CICES (Desirable).

  • Full professional membership with RICS or CICES (desirable).
