Job description

Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites is based in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, where it produces complex composite structures that are predominantly used to manufacture vital parts on ships, submarines and aircraft.

From bespoke one-off designs to low-volume manufacture, the business enjoys a unique place within its sector thanks to its application of ground-breaking technologies that drive the industry forward.

Purpose of the position

The role will support the company in managing the full life cycle of its contracts, this will involve supporting the winning of new business and thereafter will be responsible for contract drafting and negotiation, managing contract changes and contract maintenance throughout its duration in order to maintain excellent customer relations and maximise performance on contracted activity. This role will be responsible for the appropriate flow down of customer contractual requirements in to the supply chain and thus this role will include support to procurement.

The role will also be responsible for internal governance of this bidding/contract acceptance processes plus export control in relation to export/import and associated requirements such as EAR/ITAR.

The main aspects of the role include:-

  • Acting as the customer point of contact for contractual & commercial matters
  • Acting as process governance for bidding and contract acceptance
  • Acting as the business lead for export controls including latest export regulations, export licences, EAR and ITAR, etc
  • Implementation and maintenance of contractual clauses internally and flow down to the supply chain (in conjunction with our procurement dept)
  • Encouraging good industry standard practice and self-assessment of quality and accuracy of commercial work.
  • To minimise the contractual, commercial and business risk and exposure of the Company whilst maximising profit opportunity
  • Providing advice, assistance and guidance on a wide range of commercial matters, including commercial support and contracts.
  • Maintain knowledge in area of expertise and coach and develop colleagues.
  • To ensure the efficient and effective transfer of commercial responsibility for newly contracted business in the delivery and performance phase
  • Collating commercial data as required for bids and projects
  • Providing advice, assistance and guidance on a wide range of commercial matters, including commercial support and contracts.
  • Maintain knowledge in area of expertise and coach and develop colleagues.
  • Maintain a close contact with Procurement staff.

Experience

  • A demonstrable record of working in a commercial environment, working on complex contracts for a variety of and commercial civil and possibly defence sector customers
  • An in-depth working knowledge of pricing, terms and conditions and other contractual documentation
  • The capability to interface with senior company and customer personnel and all employees
  • An understanding of defence/aerospace contracts, ideally Def-Cons
  • Ideally worked with international customer base

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level preferably in Law or relevant subject.
  • Member of a recognised professional body - Desirable

  • Working knowledge of pricing and business documentation
