Role is broad and includes anything from risk management to procurement, contract management, financial reporting and managing the supply chain. Typically, they will have a track record of managing and developing a commercial team and be themselves a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB, and a mentor/role model to other commercial staff on their journey to becoming professionally qualified. They will maintain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Commercial Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Responsibilities
  • Governance: Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company's governance requirements and maximises LEAN/digital opportunities.
  • Commercial Management: See the bigger picture; understand economic factors affecting the construction industry; awareness of disputes resolution including options and techniques; liaise with legal experts; prepare estimates & tender submissions; interpret specifications & preambles; represent financial and contractual interests in meetings; respond to customer requirements; manage commercial aspects with suppliers, customers and stakeholders to keep the project on plan; coordinate buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management & procurement techniques; manage commercial risk and opportunity; manage disallowed cost.
  • Accountabilities: Provide commercial input to Buildability and Value Engineering reviews; manage feedback of commercial data to Planning and Estimating; maximise digital opportunities; support tender & cost data reviews; manage preparation of Target Cost; coordinate the commercial team to identify and action programme issues; manage Earned Value Management and the monthly Cost and Value Reconciliation (CVR) and related commercial reports; report and explain the commercial aspects of a project; manage feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing and Sales.
  • Procurement: Establish client supply chain requirements and advise on alternative forms of contract & procurement arrangements; formulate and manage plans for resource procurement.
  • Development, Recruitment and Retention: Recruitment, management, development and retention of staff.
Qualifications
  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
  • CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
