Senior Commercial Manager
Location: London Heathrow
Compensation: £70,000pa - 80,000pa + benefits, 28 days of annual leave (excluding public holidays), Bupa Medical Cover, Aviva pension scheme (listed below)
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Format: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Industry Experience: Manufacturing/Airports preferred


Introduction to the Role:
Our client, a global market leader in the design, manufacture, installation, and service of automated material handling systems, is seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to join their dynamic project execution team. With a strong reputation in delivering reliable, innovative, and customer-focused solutions, our client operates in key markets such as Airports, Warehousing, and Parcel Solutions.

In this role, you will play a critical part in managing complex automation system projects, specifically within airport and parcel environments. The position requires a motivated and highly organised individual with strong leadership abilities and the ability to navigate challenging situations to successful outcomes.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Ensure complex projects are cost and change-controlled, protecting them from commercial risks through effective contract management and administration (both upstream to customers and downstream to subcontractors).
  • Take financial control of projects, including managing forecasts (cash flow and costs), applications for payments, and billing plans.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Continuously improve the commercial management practices within the team, implementing strategies and targets in collaboration with the Commercial Lead, Project Steering Group, and Project Directorship.
  • Provide mentorship and support to upskill and develop the commercial team, fostering effective collaboration and project delivery.

Role Qualifications and Skills:
  • Experience working on airport projects (ideally Heathrow), or in similar complex environments.
  • Expertise in various contract types (e.g., NEC3, NEC4, MF/1).
  • Proven track record in commercial management of complex engineering projects with annual revenue of £10m+.
  • Ability to drive and influence teams to meet project deadlines and deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of scope management, change control processes, and cost/compensation event analysis.
  • Experience in managing suppliers and subcontractors, including pre- and post-contract relationship management.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate and prioritise work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB, ACostE) is preferred.
  • The ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and take full accountability for the commercial success of projects.
