The role

As a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. We’re looking for an individual ready to take ownership, challenge the status quo, and collaborate across teams to deliver outstanding commercial outcomes on a pivotal contract.

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for the commercial management of our flagship shipbuilding contract, Type 31. This includes managing claims and contract variations and working closely with the wider team to ensure obligations are clearly understood, deliverables are on track, and all contract requirements are met. Additionally, you will:

  • Provide governance to internal stakeholders on commercial issues—so you'll need a sharp eye for detail and the ability to juggle multiple parallel and complex demands.
  • Act as an escalation point for high-risk, complex commercial matters, coordinating responses with legal and other teams.
  • Oversee the production and negotiation of complex changes to existing contracts, including gathering and evaluating evidence to support contract changes in line with contract and statutory requirements.
  • Confidently engage with the customer, developing positive relationships that reflect and represent the company.
  • Interface with a wide range of internal stakeholders across commercial, finance, supply chain, project, and technical teams as required.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Senior Commercial Manager

  • A proven commercial professional with a strong track record in bidding for, negotiating, and managing complex and/or strategically significant contracts.
  • Experienced in commercial and contractual matters, with evidence of leading both pre- and post-contract activities.
  • Skilled in defining, driving, and governing commercial and contract frameworks.
  • Adept at identifying and implementing pragmatic commercial solutions that benefit all parties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications for the Senior Commercial Manager

  • Ideally qualified to degree level, or with equivalent experience gained through a successful and extensive commercial career.
  • Industry-standard and/or professional body accreditations (e.g. World CC) are desirable.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
