Role and Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities

The purpose of the role is to support the MX business within Samsung Electronics UK to provide commercial and financial support to a product sub-division (Eco that comprises of Tablet, Wearables, Accessories, PC and Services). This a senior business-partnering role supporting the supporting the divisional Product Management, Sales, AR, Ops and FP&A teams, reporting into the head of Commercial.

Strategic Business Partnering

  • Work closely with senior leadership and functional heads to influence and shape business strategy.

  • Present and communicate financial insights to non-financial partners in a clear and actionable manner.

  • Offer solutions to drive revenue growth by optimising investment to drive the best possible value for the business.

  • Handle relationships with external customers as they relate to commercial finance matters.

  • Understand the product portfolio and handle according to lifecycle

Commercial decision support

  • Partner with PM and sales to evaluate the financial viability of business strategies and investments by delivering insight and recommendations.

  • Support with the development and implementation of the investment and management frameworks aligned to divisional commercial objectives.

  • Increase efficiency and enhance commercial results derived from sales deduction investment across the category.

  • Scenario planning/investment appraisal to understand the value, viability and guide on investment or alternate solutions

  • Challenge and influence decisions on pricing, promo laydown and investment rates

Financial planning

  • Support on forecasting processes and reviews with FP&A.

  • Ensure robust forecasts are in place having challenged and interrogated the key inputs with the relevant partners

  • Support the Divisions’ quarterly and monthly financial planning processes.

  • Understand variances between actual performance and forecast, identifying key drivers and recommending actions.

Driving financial performance

  • Develop and handle key performance indicators to track commercial performance of key merchants.

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks related to commercial activities, including revenue, net price SD and costs risks.

  • Work closely and collaborate with Product Management and Sales to drive financial performance and ensure the delivery of the Divisions’ financial objectives such as sales, profitability and market share.

  • Work with the FP&A team to prepare valuable reporting and analysis to support management with solutions of key challenges (e.g. underachievement of SO for key devices).

Financial management and control

  • Ensure strong control and governance in the financial activities undertaken by the Divisions.

  • Provide guidance on the accounting for more complex customer deals, obtaining technical advice from other areas of Finance where necessary and ensuring that transactions to be supported within agreed accounting standards.

Your key people management responsibilities

  • Provide clarity on strategy, team purpose & value and define the key areas of focus and direction.

  • Support the development of your team through regular mentoring, coaching and feedback, 1:1s and on the job learning opportunities.

  • Role model inclusion for your team to build trust and psychological safety.

  • Ensure communication with your team is a core focus area including cascade of information from LT’s and relevant business updates.

  • Manage the on boarding, off boarding process and the entirety of the colleague lifecycle process for all team members.

  • Manage all annual people management cycles such as goal setting, evaluation and salary reviews to a high quality and in a timely manner.

  • To be accountable for ensuring your team are compliant with company processes and procedures; such as compliance, meeting mandatory business cyclical deadlines, and understanding the company values.

What we need for this role

To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • FMCG background required. Experience within technology sector and a fast-paced sales environment needed.

  • Balancing priorities such forecast reviews and ad-hoc decisions support, without compromising quality.

  • Balancing financial objectives with commercial goals when working with different teams on investment decisions.

Hard Skills

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA). with 6+ years’ experience in industry

  • Up to date knowledge of international accounting standards.

  • Experience of working in technology or FMCG sectors;

  • Hands on experience of using ERP systems (preferably SAP).

  • Ability to implement change process to streamline and make existing processes more efficient.

What does success look like?

Supporting Head of Commercial Finance and product category with accurate and timely support on all commercial proposals, balancing Sales Deduction investment, key brand/PI metrics, profit and sales volumes using market and channel insights to maximise return on investment and minimise commercial risk.

Acting as a bridge between sales, product management and FP&A to support accurate financial simulations and commercial deal approval.

Ensuring that divisional and sub-divisional forecasts are accurate and reflective of the correct commercial and accounting treatment.
