Job summary

SSQ is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its UK legal team. The role provides pragmatic, commercially oriented advice across the business and acts as a trusted adviser on a broad range of commercial contracts.

You will draft, review and negotiate agreements, support high-value negotiations, manage external counsel where needed and help align legal processes with the company’s commercial objectives.

Qualifications

• This role requires a UK-qualified solicitor with 5+ years’ PQE and a strong grounding in commercial contracts and general commercial law.
• Candidates with in-house experience will be considered, though private practice training is advantageous.
• The successful candidate will be commercial, pragmatic and people-oriented, building relationships with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements.
• Provide general commercial and contractual advice across the business.
• Partner with senior stakeholders and offer clear, practical legal guidance.
• Support negotiations on strategically important and higher-value deals.
• Identify and manage legal and contractual risk while enabling commercial objectives.
• Assist with compliance or data protection where needed; collaborate with various functions.
