Job summary

The University of Surrey seeks a highly experienced senior lawyer to join the governance and risk assurance team. You will provide expert legal advice to Operate Surrey Ltd and the University, covering a broad range of activities and collaborating with academic and professional services teams to support institutional objectives and global strategy.

Reporting to the Director of Legal Services, you will deliver across a diverse portfolio, with emphasis on commercial contracts and sector-specific

Qualifications

Qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial post-qualification experience managing complex and/or time-critical legal matters.
In-house experience is desirable, with exposure to higher education or public sector environments.
Experience across consumer rights, IP, employment, property, construction, litigation, data protection, corporate law and finance & banking.

Responsibilities

Deliver expert legal advice across a diverse portfolio.
Focus on advising on commercial contracts and related work areas in higher education.
Provide support across governance, regulatory compliance and corporate matters.
Balance legal risk with institutional priorities to maintain robust compliance.
