Job description

At MOTORS, we like to say that we know MOTORS!

Millions of people come to us every month to find their next car, because we keep the car search process simple. We have hundreds of thousands of used cars listed for sale by dealers nationwide, and guides, advice, tips and reviews to help buyers find the right one. We don't just help consumers, though.

For our dealer partners, we offer a unique advertising ecosystem that allows them to get their cars seen by buyers across some of the UK's biggest car search sites: MOTORS, Cazoo, eBay, Gumtree and Parkers.

In 2024 we acquired Cazoo, one of the UK's most recognised automotive brands, marking the start of an exciting new chapter. We're now building on Cazoo's strong brand recognition to create the next-generation car search experience-one that's simpler, smarter, and more transparent.

We're excited about what's ahead, and we're looking for ambitious, adaptable team members who thrive in a fast-moving, evolving business.

We're looking for a highly capable Senior Cloud Engineer with a strong background in Azure networking and infrastructure to join our high-performing Cloud & Security team within Motors & Cazoo. This is a hands-on, senior-level role focused on building secure, reliable, and scalable cloud platforms - with a critical emphasis on designing and maintaining resilient network architecture.

Reports To: Head of Cloud & QA

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Richmond UK, Remote

About the role:

As we modernise our infrastructure from a legacy VM estate to a fully cloud-native ecosystem, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the backbone of our connectivity - ensuring that our hybrid environments are secure, performant, and aligned with best practices. You'll combine deep technical expertise in cloud networking with practical delivery experience, helping us unlock the full potential of Azure.

You'll work alongside engineers, architects, and security teams to define, implement, and maintain high-quality cloud solutions, with a focus on automation, observability, and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities will include:

You will be a senior contributor and trusted advisor in our cloud transformation journey.

  • Lead the design and implementation of secure and scalable networking architectures in Azure, including Hub-and-Spoke, Virtual WAN, and hybrid cloud connectivity
  • Own and enhance the operational reliability of our Azure networks, VPNs, ExpressRoute, and firewalls
  • Contribute to the evolution of our infrastructure platform using Terraform, Helm, and Azure-native services
  • Support the refactoring and migration of legacy VM workloads to modern cloud-native services
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure all cloud networking aligns with regulatory and enterprise standards
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineers within the Cloud team and the wider technology org
  • Proactively identify and resolve complex networking issues, optimising performance, availability, and cost
  • Maintain strong observability across the estate, implementing best-in-class monitoring, logging, and alerting practices
  • Be a key voice in architectural forums and technical decision-making
  • Champion DevSecOps practices and security by design across our cloud platform
  • Participate in the on-call rota for critical cloud services
What we're ideally looking for:
  • Significant experience operating as a Cloud Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer within Azure environments
  • Expert-level understanding of Azure networking - including Hub-and-Spoke, VNets, VPNs, NSGs, ASGs, firewalls and DNS
  • Proven ability to design, build, and scale secure, reliable cloud network infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and IaC best practices
  • Extensive WAF experience, preferably with Azure Native tooling such as Application Gateway or Front Door. However, experience with tools such as Barracuda/Cloudflare/Akamai/F5 could also be beneficial
  • Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and container networking models
  • Experience operating and optimising VM-based workloads in production environments
  • Strong awareness of security-first principles and experience working alongside InfoSec or Compliance teams
  • A track record of solving complex infrastructure problems through collaboration and system thinking
  • Exposure to observability tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Prometheus, or Grafana
  • Azure certifications (e.g. AZ-700, AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-400) are beneficial but not essential
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills - capable of translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
If you're excited about building scalable cloud infrastructure, solving real-world challenges, and helping drive meaningful change, we'd love to hear from you.

At MOTORS , we're fearlessly committed to helping car buyers and dealers save time, money, and energy. If you're ready to challenge the status quo, give it your all, and come out smiling, you'll fit right in. You can expect a fast pace, plenty of support and a commitment to work flexibility.
