Preoperative assessment has an exciting opportunity for positive and enthusiasticpeople to join our existing busy, friendly and supportive team. Based in the Theatres & Anaesthesia CSUover the three sites of SJUH, LGI and WGH, preoperative assessment plays anintegral part in to providing care and optimisation to patients prior tosurgery.

Weare looking for friendly, flexible and self-motivated individuals who are ableto work in a busy environment. You will have excellent communication skills tobe able to work with a team and provide patient care. You must be able to useyour own initiative and work to deadlines.

Thesuccessful candidate will support the nursing team within the department toprovide patient care through a range of different skills and clinical tasksassociated with the pre-assessment of patients.

Main duties of the job

Weare looking for enthusiastic individual to be an integral part of our team,support patients and the smooth running of the department.

Youwill provide patient care by undertaking clinical tests such as ECG recording,venepuncture, swabbing, updating digital records as well as giving advise andinstructions to patients. You will follow up blood and sample results, escalateaccording to clinical guidelines and contact other organisations such as GPsurgeries.

Youwill work alongside colleagues such as other clinical support workers,administration team, nurses and doctors.

Job responsibilities

Thejobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirectcompassionate care for patients in support of the multidisciplinary team. Thejobholder will undertake a range of delegated clinical patient care dutiesunder the support and supervision of a registered practitioner.

Thejobholder will assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care aspart of the multi professional team. The jobholder is expected to plan,implement, deliver and maintain high standards of patient care. The jobholderwill be skilled in taking appropriate action(s) and acting on own initiative toachieve the planned outcome.

Thejobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effectivecare.

Thejobholder will be expected to lead a team of clinical support workers andapprentice clinical support workers.

Thejobholder will be expected to practice in accordance within Trust policies,guidelines, standards and statutory requirements and operate within definedcompetency boundaries.

Thejobholder will work within a ward, clinical department or community setting aspart of a multidisciplinary team.

Thejobholder must comply with the wearing of PPE as appropriate to the clinicalsituation - this may involve wearing face masks for a considerable length oftime.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care, Diploma in Health Level 3, Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 or equivalent experience.
  • The Care Certificate or in the absence of this the jobholder must successfully attain the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Commitment to undergo training and education as required.
  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
  • Basic skills Maths and English Level 2 (equivalent of GCSE 4-9 (A*-C)).
Experience
  • Significant experience of working within a healthcare setting delivering personal and clinical care.
