The NHS is inviting applications for a band 8a Clinical Biochemist position within a large team of Clinical Scientists in North West London. Candidates are expected to have relevant qualifications, including HCPC registration and experience in clinical biochemistry. The role provides opportunities for training and service development in a supportive environment.
Applications are invited for a band 8a Clinical Biochemist to join our large team of Clinical Scientists within Blood Sciences at North West London Pathology (NWLP).
NWLP is a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust. The partnership represents a new model for delivering pathology testing in a modern, efficient operation that manages 25 million tests per year. Our services are delivered at six hospital sites across North West London.
The Clinical Biochemistry Service, one of the largest in the UK, provides core services in automated laboratories on each site with specialist services centralised at Charing Cross Hospital. Specialist services, including a number of SAS centres, comprise Endocrinology, Trace Elements, Tumour Markers, Molecular Urology, Metabolic Biochemistry, Special Proteins and the DEQAS vitamin D EQA programme; all have strong Clinical Scientist leadership.
The successful applicant should be state registered and actively working towards FRCPath part 1 (if not already obtained) with post registration experience in all areas of routine biochemistry. We are an accredited training centre for both the HSST and STP and have a good track record with colleagues sitting all stages of the RCPath exams.
Our 8a clinical scientists typically spend one day each week as Duty Biochemist and divide their remaining time between two or more of our specialist services where they will receive full training, develop their expertise and contribute to service development. Our wide range of specialist services provides opportunities to both build on prior experience and develop in new areas.
Benefits include career development, flexible working, staff wellbeing programmes, staff awards and recognition scheme. We also have available benefits including Cycle to Work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.
NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
For 2025, see below the start dates which you will be able to book once you have completed all your pre-employment checks.
Candidates are advised to consider these start dates before agreeing end of service date with their current employer.
