Job description

Applications are invited for the post commencing 5th August 2025 until 3rd February 2026.

The post is attached to the Cardiff Lower Limb Arthroplasty Unit, at both the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough, serving a local population of 500,000 and providing a tertiary referral service for a population of 1.5 million. The successful candidate will be exposed to all aspects of knee surgery. There is a fully established Research Unit. The candidate will be expected to participate in ongoing research projects and specific research initiatives.

Candidate Requirements

Ideally, candidates should have completed a basic Orthopaedic Registrar training programme and passed the appropriate exit examination.

Main duties of the job
  • Work at specialist Registrar level and participate in the specialist Registrar on-call rota at Llandough Hospital.
  • Attend clinics, review/research clinics, and manage lists, both own and supervised.
  • Lead 1 or 2 research projects.
  • Access university facilities; original research is encouraged.
  • Duties include retrospective reviews, liaising with university departments, and screening and scoring patients.
Contract Details
  • Type: Fixed-term - 6 months (5 August 2025 - 3 February 2026)
  • Hours: Full-time - 40 hours per week (including on-call duties)
  • Salary: NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow £43,821 to £68,330 per annum
