Senior Clinical Psychlogist/Psychological Therapist

This is an opportunity for a CAT Practitioner to join our specialist Cognitive Analytic Therapy service in Newcastle, for a part time (0.5 WTE) role.

The CNTW CAT Service is one of the very few services in the UK focused entirely on Cognitive Analytic Therapy. Our service is based in the Trust's Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies, alongside services for EMDR, Psychotherapy, CBT and Family Therapy.

Our service:

  • provides CAT therapy to people with complex psychological needs
  • hosts the Newcastle CAT Practitioner, Introductory and Supervisor Trainings, and is one of four providers across England commissioned to deliver NHS England funded CAT Practitioner Training
  • provides CAT supervision to practitioner trainees, practitioners and others
  • provides CAT scaffolding services (e.g. 5 sessions CAT and other forms of CAT consultation)
  • undertakes service evaluation and research.
Main duties of the job

With the provision of NHS England funded CAT training we have steadily grown and are now a team of six. The balance of duties will depend upon the skills and experience of the postholder.

The key potential elements will be:

  • providing specialist CAT clinical interventions with adult service users with complex mental health needs
  • delivery of CAT supervision, training and consultation
  • contributing to service evaluation and development

The post holder will be a suitably qualified Psychologist or Psychologist Therapist with Practitioner training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy, ideally with some experience of delivering CAT training. The post holder will have appropriate profession and ACAT registration as a CAT Practitioner.

The post is open to accredited CAT supervisors, but we can also accept applications from practitioners who are currently undertaking or ready to undertake their CAT supervisor training. Other details are available in the Job Description and Person Specification.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
  • Appropriate level of level training as set out in the corresponding person specification documents.
  • Appropriate membership of professional body as set out in the corresponding person specification documents.
Knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapies including CAT
  • Appropriate post qualification experience of specialist psychological therapies including CAT
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision
Skills and competencies
  • Specilast skills and competency in evidence based psychological therapies including CAT
Role/Team specific requirements
  • Ability to teach and train others , using a variety of complex multi media materials for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
Personal characteristics
  • Flexible attitude towards work.
