Senior Clinical/Forensic Psychologist - Thornford Park

Thornford Park Hospital, part of Elysium Healthcare, is an independent 143-bed hospital set in 23 acres of parkland on the outskirts of Newbury, Berkshire. We provide services for male and female patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983), requiring care in medium and low security conditions. Our service users often have forensic histories, need long-term treatment and rehabilitation, and present with complex, high-risk behaviors and care needs. The hospital also features specialized units, including a 14-bed low secure service for males with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, a medium/low secure service for females with Learning Disabilities, and a medium secure service for males with Learning Disabilities, along with Psychiatric Intensive Care Units for both genders.

We seek a highly motivated individual for the position of Registered Clinical/Forensic Psychologist in the Department of Psychological Therapies at Thornford Park Hospital.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage your own caseload independently, working with complex service users.
  • Participate in clinical and service development meetings, including MDTs, CPAs, referrals, and hospital-wide meetings.
  • Be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team on the new ward.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and develop treatment plans for both long and short-term work.
  • Deliver individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Maintain monthly clinical supervision and regular line-management supervision.
  • Provide clinical supervision to nursing and therapy staff and facilitate reflective practice.
  • Contribute to MDT and CPA documentation both verbally and in writing.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing care plans.
  • Offer specialist clinical advice, including assessing care needs and evaluating care programs.
  • Support professional development within the team.
  • Participate in teaching, induction, and mandatory training.
  • Engage in audit and research activities as directed.

Requirements:

  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist and eligibility for Chartered status with the British Psychological Society.
  • Experience applying psychological models and theories to address risk and behavioral issues.
