Responsibilities

There is a vacancy for 1 Senior Registrar (ST3+ level) with FTC ending 04/04/2026
The post will require working cross side between Maidstone hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Day time commitments would give the applicant a broad exposure to trauma and elective orthopaedics.
The postholder will be attached to the trauma and orthopaedic consultant teams, rotating as necessary and carrying out duties for any of the departments 17 consultant surgeons.
Assessment and management of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and referred to the specialty.
Participation in the middle grade on call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleagues’ absence.
Attend clinics, assess patients and formulate treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.
Attending operating sessions with the consultant and assist or perform operations as appropriate.
The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust provides acute hospital services for an area in South West Kent and parts of East Sussex. The main acute hospitals are the Tunbridge Wells Hospital and the Maidstone Hospital.
The department of surgery moved from Kent and Sussex Hospital into the new Tunbridge Wells hospital at Pembury in September 2011, when emergency surgery was rationalised with the reconfiguration process. All emergency surgery cases are admitted to Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Day case is provided on both sites as well as rehabilitation beds on both sites.
Conducting ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant’s care, supervising the junior doctors in the care of these patients.
Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interests of patient care and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the rota and general manager.
Teaching and training junior doctors.
Communication with other team members as appropriate.
