Job description

The post holder will work in the Paediatric department as an integral member of the Paediatric team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing ward support as a ‘middle grade’, working alongside the consultant of the week to provide inpatient care for Paediatric patients. They will also gain experience in outpatient clinics.

This position is designed for a trainee seeking to gain further experience in Acute Paediatrics within the NHS in the UK. It is suitable for an experienced doctor at ST3 level or higher.

The post offers 12 months in a Tier 2 role, based in general paediatrics. The post-holder will participate in the Tier 2 on-call rota to cover general paediatrics during day and overnight shifts, averaging no more than 48 hours per week.

This role is ideal for candidates wishing to develop skills in both acute and outpatient paediatrics, with opportunities to explore sub-specialist areas within acute paediatrics.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Contribute to high-quality care for children and young people in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  2. Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to provide integrated services.
  3. Develop skills and interests in the general paediatric sub-specialty.
  4. Maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues and participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities.
  5. Develop a special interest to enhance the current medical team's skills.
  6. Participate in the appraisal process for Tier 1 resident doctors under consultant supervision.
  7. Engage in teaching and education for resident doctors and medical students.
  8. Maintain good communication with GPs, tertiary specialists, and outside agencies.
  9. Participate in Clinical Governance, Risk Management, and Clinical Audit.
  10. Keep practice up-to-date and adhere to GMC standards.
