A healthcare provider is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in their Paediatric Emergency Department. The role involves providing middle-grade cover, managing critically ill children, and leading resuscitation efforts. Candidates should be registered with the GMC and have experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. The position offers excellent training opportunities and a supportive environment for career progression.
We are excited to advertise several Senior Clinical Fellow posts in our Paediatric Emergency Department at Northampton General Hospital. These newly created positions are designed for candidates functioning at a senior decision-maker level in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or those ready to assume this responsibility and advance their careers in this specialty. The successful applicants will begin at a level appropriate to their experience, likely at ST3-6 (registrar) level. Candidates must be registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice.
The purpose of this role is twofold:
The PED is adjacent to the main ED, separated only by swipe access, and is well-supported by a team of Consultants, Middle Grades, and Resident Doctors working in the main ED. Our rota provides 24/7 cover with Registrars or Specialty Doctors equivalent to ST4+. Post holders will participate in this rota.
Responsibilities include managing children with emergency problems ranging from minor injuries and illnesses to major trauma and critically unwell cases. You will lead major cases in the resuscitation room, supervise ACCS trainees, GP trainees, and Junior Clinical Fellows in PED, and collaborate with highly experienced PED nurses to prioritize sick children and support ED standards.
The department benefits from extended consultant cover from 08:00 to 23:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 22:00 on weekends and bank holidays. Outside these hours, on-call systems are in place, with consultants attending as needed.
We encourage the post holder to complete workplace-based assessments for personal development and competency mapping aligned with the RCEM curriculum. Education is integral to this role; the successful applicant will both receive and deliver teaching, supported by a designated consultant supervisor. Our ED is known for its friendly environment, approachable senior staff, and excellent training opportunities, including subspecialty interests such as Geriatric Emergency Medicine, Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine, Sports Medicine, Education, and Emergency Ultrasound.
