Job description

Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology - ST3 or above

Bradford Royal Infirmary's obstetrics department is a busy unit with approximately 5,500 deliveries annually. The post offers a wide range of obstetric and medical pathology cases, providing ample opportunities to gain confidence in high-volume obstetrics. The post holder will:

  • See and plan care for in-patients, supported by Consultants
  • Manage Labour Ward and attend antenatal clinics, including specialist clinics such as multiple pregnancy, diabetes, endocrine, haematology, and epilepsy

Gynaecology duties include:

  • Care of in-patients and admissions to the Gynaecology Acute Assessment Unit
  • Perioperative care and outpatient clinics, including specialist clinics in oncology, urogynaecology, and infertility

Additional facilities include a satellite IVF Unit, ambulatory hysteroscopy, colposcopy, and urodynamics. Outpatient and theatre sessions provide excellent teaching opportunities, with all consultants eager to participate.

Responsibilities at Specialty Registrar level include supervising first-on-call doctors and assisting consultants with early pregnancy assessment and emergency gynaecology cases such as ectopic pregnancy and surgical evacuation.

Special Interests: The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue a special interest, with opportunities in Level 1 & 2 obstetric scanning, maternal medicine, urogynaecology, outpatient hysteroscopy, colposcopy, and infertility.

Potential roles within the post include:

  • Clinical risk and governance: Participation in risk management processes, incident report processing, and multidisciplinary review meetings
  • Perinatal reviews: Completion of the Perinatal Mortality Review Tool and attendance at bi-monthly perinatal mortality meetings
  • Research: Engagement in ongoing research studies and completion of the NIHR Associate PI scheme
