Job description
Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Women & Children\'s Directorate as a Clinical Fellow ST3+ in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Southend Hospital, part of the Mid and South Essex Hospital group. We are a popular training unit and have received positive feedback from trainees. In 2018 we received the RCOG award for Top Training unit in the UK for Overall Satisfaction, Gynaecology training, Professional development and within the top 10 for Obstetrics training based on the TEF survey. In 2017 we were within the Top 10 training units in the country. We will consider SKYPE interviews for overseas candidates. The junior medical team work on a shift system with a named consultant on duty for the day/night. Wherever possible the timetable aims to provide continuity of junior medical staff, though there may be occasions where the On-Take commitment and junior doctor requirements lead to alternative arrangements. Multidisciplinary clinical audit sessions are held each month with presentations from medical and midwifery staff on topics predetermined in the annual Clinical Audit programme. Also held monthly are perinatal morbidity, perinatal mortality, ultrasound scan and histopathology meetings.

Responsibilities
  • You will be expected to show qualities of leadership but also to know your limitations and call for help and advice appropriately
  • Will need to liaise with various members of the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
  • Attend to the day-to-day management of day case, out-patient and in-patients
  • Attend and participate in ward rounds and operating theatre sessions as timetabled
  • Attend general and specialist out-patient, diagnostic and pre-assessment clinics
  • Teach medical students as directed
  • Keep up to date with all administrative duties including letters, results and discharge summaries as required
  • Study for higher examinations and maintain continued professional development as required
  • Undertake and assist in audit projects various times throughout the rotations
  • Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions
  • Co-operate with members of the HR department when monitoring hours of work
  • Attend induction in each hospital or new department
  • Attend post-mortem demonstrations when required
  • Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave

Salary: £73,992 a year per annum (pro rata for Part Time).
