A leading healthcare provider in London seeks a Senior Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine. This role involves managing ICU patients, providing training to medical students, and participating in multidisciplinary care. Candidates should have GMC registration and previous ICU experience. Background: This post provides resident cover and experience at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Initial contracts are for 6 months, with potential extension to 12 months or longer based on performance and vacancies. Rotations to other sites may be offered as vacancies allow.
Role Summary: The Senior Clinical Fellow is expected to join the registrar grade tier, providing full on-call cover for the units, including weekends and nights. Airway management experience is essential.
Genesis of Post: New position.
Duties and Responsibilities: When on duty, the resident reviews and manages ICU patients under supervision, participates in multidisciplinary care, performs procedures, liaises with teams, updates relatives, and acts as the first point of contact for ICU nursing staff. They also supervise and train medical students attached to the ICU.
Outline Timetable: Includes twice daily multidisciplinary ward rounds, weekly MDTs, daily meetings with Infectious Diseases/Microbiology, and various educational and governance meetings. Shifts range from 9.5 to 13 hours, with an average of less than 48 hours per week. The service operates 7 days a week.
Training and Courses: Induction, network transfer training, BASIC courses, management courses, and ALS access are provided at no cost.
On Call: Full or partial shift pattern, with night shifts expected no more than once in six nights. Candidates may apply for specialist fellowships in neuro, teaching/simulation, echo FUSIC Heart and Lung, or BSE1.
Additional Requirements: Can be taken as a stand-alone role or as an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE). GMC registration is required, and previous ICU/anaesthetics experience (>12 months) and postgraduate examination are essential.
