Job summary

A prominent healthcare provider located in Liverpool is seeking a doctor to support their inpatient Haematology service. The ideal candidate will manage patients, participate in outpatient clinics, and support junior clinical staff. This role includes a weekend on-call commitment and offers a chance to gain valuable experience in Haematology and stem cell transplants. Applicants must have full GMC registration and relevant medical qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Full Registration and Licence to practice with the GMC.
  • MBCHB or equivalent MRCP - working toward completion.
  • Advanced life support from the UK Resuscitation Council.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patients within the Haematology ward and transplant unit.
  • Support the junior clinical team and undertake ward rounds.

Job description

The role will be suitable for doctors who have completed Core Medical Training particularly for those wishing to gain additional experience before commencing Haematology training. The role will include a weekend only on-call commitment (9am-5pm) on a 1:5 basis within Haematology. The on call is supported by resident Haematology registrars and consultants.

The role will be to support the inpatient Haematology service and participate in outpatient clinics to gain experience in the management of the common tumour groups. The level of clinical independence in the management of outpatients will depend on clinical experience to date.

There is also opportunity for clinical experience within the stem cell transplant unit.

Main duties of the job

The primary duties of the post include management responsibilities for patients within the Haematology ward (ward 4) and the transplant unit (ward 5). This will include supporting the junior clinical team and undertaking ward rounds with the Haematology registrars and consultants.

Person Specification
  • Full Registration and Licence to practice with the GMC
  • MBCHB or equivalent MRCP - working toward completion
  • Advanced life support from the UK Resuscitation Council
  • MRCP completed
Knowledge & Expertise
  • Compliance with the GMC Duties of a Doctor
  • Previous experience in systemic anticancer therapies and/or radiotherapy
Experience
  • Completion or partial completion of Core Medical Training/IMT -or equivalent experience.
  • Appropriate experience and competence in the recognition and management of the acutely unwell patient
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Awareness of own limitations and consults senior colleagues appropriately
  • Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit.
  • Have sufficient experience working in medical specialties (not including foundation level experience) by the advertised post start date.
  • Evidence of competency in venipuncture, cannulation, catheter insertion (evidence required either via reference or completion of UK foundation training)
