Job summary

A leading hospital trust is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow to participate in elective and emergency activities. This role involves attending clinics, engaging in multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to research and quality improvement, requiring full GMC registration and relevant surgical qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration required.
  • Experience in General Surgery Senior House Officer posts.
  • NHS experience at senior house officer or registrar level.

Responsibilities

  • Attend elective theatres based on weekly allocation.
  • Provide clinics (general and specialized) weekly as allocated.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and teaching.

Job description

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

There will be participation in the elective activity of the firm and emergency activity of the department.

The appointee will be attending elective theatres according to the weekly allocation of junior staff and educational needs.

There is an expectation of providing clinics (general and specialised) on weekly basis according to allocations.

Participation, preparation and presentation in MDTs is expected and necessary for professional development.

There are many opportunities for quality improvement projects, research participation and teaching due to the close relation of the department with SGU Medical school.

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • ATLS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • BSc qualification or Higher Degree
Experience

Essential criteria
  • General Surgery Senior House Officer (or equivalent) posts
  • NHS experience at senior house officer or registrar level
Desirable criteria
  • Registrar level experience
  • Academic publications
  • Research experience
  • Teaching experience
Knowledge Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assist with the running of the Unit
  • Knowledge of the basic science of surgery and commitment to learning
Desirable criteria
  • Proven manual and technical aptitude
  • Endoscopy experience
  • Complex hernia experience
