Senior Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology and Intestinal Failure

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and hard-working clinical fellow (equivalent to ST3 or above) in Nutrition and Intestinal Failure at University Hospital of Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to spend 12 months working within a thriving multidisciplinary nutrition team in a large Intestinal Failure centre, commissioned to provide Type 2 and 3 IF care to patients from a wide area of the West Midlands. The post can be tailor made to the applicant's training needs but has a focus on inpatient and outpatient management of patients requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition support.

UHCW also has an established IBD service, supported by 9 luminal gastroenterologists and 3 IBD Nurse Specialists. There is a dedicated IBD Helpline, telephone clinics, weekly IBD MDT, dedicated paediatric transition clinic, and the opportunity for dedicated chromoendoscopy surveillance lists for those with a specialist interest.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage inpatients with Types 1, 2 and 3 Intestinal Failure and review patients on home parenteral support in the outpatient clinic. They will also be involved in reviewing patients requiring enteral nutrition support. They will work as an integral part of the Multidisciplinary nutrition team. They will attend the weekly IF MDT, IBD MDT, and will have the opportunity to attend the monthly Nutrition Steering Committee.

The post will also include general gastroenterology experience including clinics and endoscopy training lists to ensure gastroenterology training curriculum can be adhered to. We can also offer three-month of general internal medicine (GIM) alongside the post to meet the training requirements for ST7 and therefore be eligible for this post to count towards training as agreed with the programme director of the gastroenterology registrar training programme. Though those below ST7 are welcome to apply for this post, please note that the amount of GIM training offered is insufficient for curriculum requirements.
