Senior Clinical Fellow in Facial Trauma, Skin & Orthognathic Surgery

Applications are invited for a full-time Senior Clinical Fellow post in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership and team-working qualities and will play an active role in healthcare delivery for patients with non-oncology conditions including facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, salivary gland surgery, TMJ replacement, and facial skin defect reconstruction.

The department is actively involved in the Major Trauma Centre at King's, with a focus on Oral & Maxillofacial Trauma services during and outside normal hours.

Main duties of the job

This position is suitable for senior OMFS trainees nearing or at the end of their training. A dual medical and dental qualification is desirable; a medical qualification is essential.

There are three Specialty Registrar posts and two Senior Clinical Fellow posts in the department.

The successful candidate will be expected to handle 2nd on-call duties on a 1:6 weekday basis and 1:10 on weekends, alongside a junior colleague with a dental or medical degree.

Coverage across all sites of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is required.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will:

  • Provide clinical services in collaboration with colleagues under OMFS Consultants' supervision, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses.
  • Examine and treat new patients in outpatient clinics, assist in review clinics, and organize investigations, making diagnoses and treatment plans appropriate to their experience, guided by consultants.
  • Manage surgical treatments in outpatient and day surgery settings, with some clinical autonomy subject to review.
  • Offer advice to hospital and primary care clinicians, handle urgent cases in the Emergency Department as part of on-call duties.
  • Handle administrative duties related to patient care and departmental administration.
  • Participate in risk management, clinical audit, and governance activities, adhering to Caldicott Principles.
  • Engage in the Trust’s appraisal scheme, pursue ongoing professional development to meet Royal College or GDC/GMC requirements.

  • Experience in Maxillofacial emergencies, including fracture management, airway management, and dento-facial abscesses
