Senior Clinical Fellow in ENT Head & Neck

Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician with a special interest in head and neck oncology to contribute to delivering the highest quality of patient care. The head and neck unit at St George's Hospital performs the full range of complex ablative head and neck surgery, and has a large endocrine neck surgery practice with over 300 thyroid & parathyroid operations performed each year. In addition, the unit is one of few in the UK with a regular robotic head and neck surgery programme. We work closely with our surgical colleagues in Plastics, Thoracics, Neurosurgery, and Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, as well as Oncologists from the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to work closely with colleagues and management in developing the ability of the department to respond to operational pressures together with clinical governance and longer-term service strategies.

The post holder will be expected to carry out audit and activities associated with Clinical Governance as required by the Trusts and / or by the Royal College.

About us

The ENT Department of St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust consists of 19 consultant ENT Surgeons. All inpatient work is carried out at St George's Hospital where there is an expanding head and neck unit. Outpatient services and day-case facilities are provided at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Patients with head and neck malignancies are seen with the Radiotherapist, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgeons in a joint clinic at St George's.

A hub and spoke network for ENT operates within South West London centred on St. George's Hospital covering a population of 1.7million. The aim is to provide a collaborative and integrated service for South West Thames and surrounding counties. All in-patient operating has been centralised on the St. George's Hospital site. The inpatient facilities at St George's consist of a 22 bed adult ward shared with Maxillofacial. The other linked hospital units within the group include Croydon University Hospital NHS Trust, Kingston NHS Trust, and Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust. Outpatient clinics and day surgery continue on these sites.

The post is covered by terms and conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff and General Whitely Council conditions. The post holder will be expected to carry out audit and activities associated with clinical governance as required by the Trusts and or by The Royal College
