TheLeeds Emergency Medicine Departments offer 12-month Clinical Fellowshipsdesigned to provide individually tailored experience and training for those whowant to develop a special interest in specific areas of Emergency Medicine
Fellowshipposts are available from ASAP/ February 2026onwards.
Thepost holders will be working at 60/40 clinical to non-clinical split of totalcontracted time. There will be funding available for attending relevantexternal courses.
Theposts are offered on a fixed term contract for 6 months up to 12 months in thefirst instance. The post holder must be registered with GMC and hold a licenseto practice.
Thepost holder will be responsible for delivering care to patients within theEmergency Departments at the Leeds General Infirmary and St James UniversityHospital.
Theposts are adaptable to suit the candidate's areas of interest - Candidates willbe supported in developing a new service that supports the wider emergencyneeds of the patients in Leeds. Leeds teaching hospital is a major traumacenter and has been successful in delivering training to specialist trainees inemergency medicine and has also run a successful junior clinical fellow and asenior clinical fellow program over the years. This being new posts allows thecandidate to tailor the non-clinical time to further develop their skills inemergency medicine and work towards a non-clinical portfolio

JobTitle: SeniorClinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine Grade: ST3+
Siteand Location: LGI/SJUH
Thispost will allow you to work with an enthusiastic group of consultants with akeen interest in simulation. Your responsibilities will include coordinatingan embedded weekly in situ simulation program across both of our adultdepartments. We run a wide variety of simulations covering all EMpresentations including our monthly interprofessional trauma teamsimulations. An interest in human factors and non-technical skills will serveyou well in this post.
Duringyour time with us, we will ensure that you have opportunities to develop yourown skills as simulation faculty with locally run courses such asIntroduction to Simulation and debriefing as well as ongoing constructivefeedback at each simulation. You will also have the opportunity to empowerjunior and interprofessional colleagues to work alongside you.
PostgraduateMedical Education
Asthe Senior Clinical Fellow in Postgraduate Education, you will have dedicatednon-clinical time to pursue activities related to postgraduate education,training and supervision. You will work alongside the departments collegetutors to develop and maintain a positive learning environment for cliniciansworking in the department. There will be opportunities to get involved inareas including (but not limited to) junior doctor teaching, senior teaching,simulation, induction, FOAM-ed and trainee wellbeing. You will be supportedto develop your own educational skill set including teaching and curriculumdevelopment. There is a study budget available and we will support you pursuea Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education or other relevant course.
UndergraduateMedical Education
Asthe Senior Clinical Fellow in Undergraduate Education, you will havededicated non-clinical time for the delivery of scheduled undergraduateeducation for over 100 senior medical students each year. You will workalongside the departments Undergraduate tutor to maintain the learningenvironment and to support the development of students capabilities inperformance and practice. You will be expected to teach, support and mentorthe students on the shop floor, in the classroom and in a simulated clinicalenvironment. There is also the opportunity to be formally involved inuniversity summative assessment processes. This fellowship prioritisessupport for you to transform your own capabilities relating to educationaltheory, feedback practice, simulation and teaching skills.
Aswell as a clinical role at the regional MTC, 40% of the post is dedicated totrauma-based non-clinical activities. Previous projects have included work ondeveloping a chest drain proforma for pneumothoraxes requiring a drain, aswell as local and international trauma education.
Weeklyattendance at the trauma morbidity and mortality meeting is expected, whereall cases ISS>15 are discussed. As the post continues it is expected thatyou will take a more active role in this, taking part in the rota ofreviewing and presenting cases. The trauma fellow is also involved indelivery of the monthly trauma simulation, which involves the whole MDTtrauma team. The clinical role will allow you to develop as a trauma teamleader, which will be further enhanced by your SIM involvement and othernon-clinical projects.
Duringthe Nonclinical time trainee will be supported to develop their ultrasoundskills. Support and lead on the department and undergraduate ultrasoundcourses.

Theappointee must have experience in Emergency Medicine and in specialties withrelevance to emergency medicine i.e. ACCS specialties, T&O, surgery,paediatrics
Applicantsmust provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevantRoyal College at the time of application for the application to be progressedfurther.
Ideallythe candidate will have completed MCEM/FRCEM intermediate, or equivalentqualification
Theappointee must be able to demonstrate they have the skills and competenciesto work at CT3 or higher level.
Theposts are offered on a fixed term contract for up to 12 months in the firstinstance.
DUTIESOF THE POST
OurSenior Clinical Fellows work alongside our HSTs in Emergency Medicine andStaff Grade doctors on our tier two rota. Fellows work across both sites andall departments.
Previouscandidates have had 60% of the post recognized as training time in emergencymedicine (OOPT). Trainees applying for out of programme training will beallocated appropriate clinical / educational supervisors and supported to gettheir required assessments completed and attendance at regional teaching.
Dependingon the individuals experience the applicant will work either on the CT3 orHST rota. The individual will have up to 16 hours of non-clinical dutiesdepending on individual development needs. This nonclinical time is for thedevelopment of the fellows special interest but there is also an expectationthat fellows will contribute/ support the departments education, governanceand research programmes. For example:
Delivery and development ofundergraduate education and support of medical students in the department
Delivery and development ofpostgraduate education
Delivery of simulation training
Development of clinical guidelinesrelevant to the ED
Contributing to clinical governancerequirements including quality improvement projects and audit
