We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our trust we are looking for a highly motivated , caring and compassionate Senior Clinical Fellow to join our Cardiothoracic Team.
You will be working with the team to facilitate smooth functioning of the Surgery Programme of the Unit which includes management of the patients coming through emergency, urgent and elective streams.
You must be able to work flexibly with colleagues including Clinical Fellows and Consultants to achieve the hospital’s agreed planned activity for in-patient and out-patient services.
Provide supervision to the surgical care practitioner and the foundation year trainees within the unit.
• Help with efficient running of the aortic surveillance clinics.
• Attend and assist at Outpatients clinics taking responsibility to facilitate their efficient running and ensure clinic letters are dictated promptly.
• Make formal ward rounds daily including at weekends and bank holidays when on-call. These rounds should be considered a teaching opportunity.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary clinical meetings and monthly Clinical Audit Day and ensure that standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence based research and appraisal.
• Organise (where required) and participate in out of hours cover for the unit.
• On-call responsibilities include: Night time supervision of care of surgical patients including those in the High Dependency Unit and the Intensive Care Unit.
• You will be required to communicate appropriately with the Consultants regarding the management of patients.
• Weekend on-call responsibilities including ward rounds and participation in emergency operations and assessment of in-patients as well as external referrals.
• Advise on the discharge of patients under the care of the cardiothoracic surgical Consultants.
• Perform surgery appropriate to experience under the direction of, or with the assistance of, the Consultant.
