The HPB Team have an exciting opportunity for one senior fellow with an October start.

In order to afford the best possible training exposure, we tend to appoint a fellow who has significant experience in HPB surgery. This post is therefore suitable for individuals who have either completed or are nearing completion of their CCT training

A commitment to a clinical research project would be a prerequisite for this post

The hepatobiliary and colorectal units have built upon the expertise in the management of complex liver surgery and colorectal cancer surgery. Patients are referred to the units for assessment and treatment from all over the United Kingdom. Referrals are also received from overseas.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide day to day care for inpatients under the supervision of a daily consultant ward round
  2. Perform / assist in major resections as appropriate to their level of experience and the complexity of the case.
  3. Join the on-call rota in General Surgery (1:12)
  4. Share in the teaching of Medical Students (from UCH/Middlesex, Southampton, St George's and also from abroad) and junior doctors.
  5. Participation in any current research programme.
  6. Administrative involvement .
  7. Attendance at weekly meetings in General Surgery , Morbidity and Mortality, Journal club and Multidisciplinary team meeting. Attendance is encouraged at all Tutorials and Postgraduate Education within the Hospital.

  • FRCS/MRCS or equivalents are required
  • Registration with the GMC
  • Basic Life Support
