Job description

Applications are invited for the post of Paediatric Senior Clinical Fellow on the Paediatric Critical Care Unit, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham. The successful applicant will work alongside paediatric trainees on the Mid-Trent training scheme, with optional experience with the CoMET regional transport team based at Castle Donnington.

The Paediatric Critical Care Unit is purpose-built, accommodating 18 children, with a commissioned capacity of 14 beds for level 2 and 3 patients, admitting approximately 500-600 patients annually.

We serve as a regional specialist unit for Nephrology (EMEESY Network), Major trauma, Burns, Neurosurgery, Oncology, and Spinal surgery, supporting children with various medical and surgical conditions. Surgical care includes complex neonatal, neurosurgery, E.N.T, general, and spinal surgery. All paediatric specialties except hepatology and cardiac surgery are supported by the PCCU.

The CoMET transport service, shared with Leicester, has been based at Castle Donnington since November 2023, providing advice, stabilization, and transfer for children from 7 regional hospitals, via road and helicopter (with The Children’s Air Ambulance).

The role involves contributing to a full shift system with out-of-hours cover for PICU, with an average of up to 48 hours per week. The position is suitable for individuals with at least 2 years of approved SHO posts or equivalent in paediatrics or related specialties, possibly awaiting a training post or with a CCST in PICU. Candidates should preferably hold MRCPCH or an equivalent qualification.
