Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow in Ophthalmology with an interest in cornea, anterior segment, and cataract surgery. This post will be fixed-term for 12 months.

Responsibilities

The post holder will: attend anterior segment and cataract clinics, acute referral clinics, and theatres; participate in the on-call rota; and, where required, attend clinics at an adjoining hospital trust (Airedale General Hospital).

Experience
  • Previous subspecialty training in cornea, anterior segment and cataract surgery
  • Applicant knowledge is up to date and is fit to practise safely; commitment for managing professional development
  • Clinical governance / audit experience
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
  • Out of hours experience relevant to job
  • At least 5 years’ experience post graduate training in ophthalmology including the ability to operate independently
Skills
  • Proven microsurgical skills for anterior segment surgery
  • Proven ability to work in different clinical settings
  • Organisation and planning
  • Empathy and sensitivity
  • Demonstrable English communication skills adequate to enable effective discussion with patients and colleagues, demonstrated by one of: undergraduate medical training in English; or IELTS (single sitting within 24 months): Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7. IELTS certificate to be presented at interview; if applicable, provide supporting evidence
  • Interest in teaching and management

  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
  • Understanding of what the NHS Constitution means to you, and your responsibilities to the public, patients and colleagues
  • Acute care safe — up to date BLS
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of application
