The opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Senior Clinical Fellow working within our Colorectal Team. The post is available from 6/8/25 to 3/2/26 with a possible extension. The post is based at Furness General Hospital, close to the beautiful Lake District and the seaside as well as easy rail links to Manchester and London, a great place to live and work!

This opportunity represents an ideal post for a doctor committed to a career in General Surgery with a wide range of potential skill development following their MRCP. Day-to-day work will cover both elective and emergency aspects of the service. An example on-call timetable is outlined in the job description. Our supportive and friendly environment has a proven track record in supporting individual career development and although not a training post, doctors will be assigned a clinical supervisor who will provide support, career guidance and mentoring. The appointee will take a responsible role when on call, see patients in out-patient clinics and do independent or supervised surgery depending on their training progress.

• Provide a comprehensive outpatient service.
• Through peri-operative visits and ward rounds, provide high quality patient care.
• To participate in the emergency general surgical service.
• Play a lead role in the clinical management of patients.
• Participate in clinical audit & demonstrate evidence based practice where appropriate.
• Practice adequate handover of care.
• Ensure summaries are completed, in anticipation of expected discharge, for all admissions.
• Contribute to service development in areas of special interest and expertise.
• Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Actively participate in continuing medical education.
• Undertake personal appraisal and job-planning as part of revalidation.

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
