Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist- CAMHS-LD

The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team, embedded within the Brent CAMHS Learning Disability Pathway that delivers high-quality, evidence-based, and effective psychological care to individuals being treated under the team pathway. The role includes specialist psychological assessment, therapy, advice, and consultation on children and young people’s psychological care. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. They will utilize research skills for audit, policy, service development, and research, providing high-level clinical leadership across the service, working closely with the team, families, and multi-agency professionals to improve emotional and holistic well-being through innovative, evidence-based psychological interventions. The post-holder will develop opportunities to offer consultation to non-psychologist colleagues, professionals, and carers within the young people's network, working autonomously within professional guidelines. They will collaborate with services involved in children and young people to co-produce creative activities and person-centered care plans, embracing new ways of working to meet the needs and aspirations of the children and young people served.

Main duties of the job

The responsibilities include:

  • Direct work with children, young people with learning disabilities and autism, and their families/caregivers
  • Liaison and consultation with stakeholders such as special education schools, 0-25 disabilities teams, SENCO, SENDAS, and commissioners
  • Teaching and training
  • Providing clinical supervision
  • Working strategically with senior leads within the team and Trust to enhance treatment quality for children and young people with learning disabilities and autism, and their families and carers

  • Act as care coordinator for a caseload of children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and significant mental health needs.
  • Provide comprehensive, specialist assessments and treatments for children and adolescents with severe/profound learning disabilities and mental health issues, involving their carers and families.
  • Formulate and implement treatment plans based on evidence-based methods and clinical guidelines (e.g., NICE, CEG).
  • Offer specialist systemic psychological and clinical interventions, including brief interventions, considering the needs of the individual and their system.
  • Monitor and evaluate therapeutic interventions using routine outcome measures, involving families as appropriate.
  • Evaluate treatment options considering complex factors such as environmental, developmental, and historical influences.
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
  • Post-graduate doctoral training in clinical or counselling psychology, accredited by the British Psychological Society, or equivalent.
  • Registration with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Post-doctoral training in specialized psychological practice areas.
Experience
  • Significant experience as a qualified clinical psychologist, including in healthcare settings.
  • Experience in psychological assessment and treatment, particularly with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health in children and adolescents.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and addressing diversity issues.
  • Supervisory, teaching, and research experience, including service development and staff recruitment.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Effective communication skills for technical and sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of delivering psychological interventions to diverse groups.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and lead projects.
  • Strong IT skills and research methodology knowledge.

Salary: £59,490 to £66,239 per annum, including HCAS (pro-rata for part-time roles).
