Job description

An opportunity now exists for 2 senior coders to join the Clinical Coding team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The coding teams across the trust work corporately in a rotation of five clinical PODS and are responsible for ensuring a responsive and accurate delivery of Trust activity to sustain trust financial flows and to support the operational and strategic management of the organisation.

You will need to exhibit excellent analytical skills, logic, and a high level of interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written. Flexible in your approach, you must be able to work as a part of the team to tight deadlines. You must be a holder of the ACC qualification, ideally with broad experience throughout a variety of medical and surgical areas in an acute setting with at least 2 years’ experience post qualification.

Remote coding has long been introduced and currently the teams work remotely 3 days a week and are in one of the office locations on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Note; the recruitment and retention premium (RRP) is at 10% on this banding.

Responsibilities

• Participate in designated areas in the monthly achievement of deadline targets, assuring a high standard in completeness, timeliness & accuracy.
• Ensure own targets are met.
• Assist in training and monitoring of new staff in both technical coding and process.
• Involvement in coder/clinician engagement.
• Take a lead in the development of process in specialised areas and advise the senior coding management on best practice in specialised areas.
• Advise the Band 7 Specialist Coders where further information is required or needs to be further qualified in areas of complexity and high cost which impact on national outcomes, indicators, Trust reputation and income.

Qualifications

Holder of the ACC qualification with at least 2 years’ experience post qualification and broad experience across a variety of medical and surgical areas in an acute setting.
