Job description

Go back East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust

Senior Clinical Advisor

The closing date is 20 July 2025

In this pivotal role, you will work as an autonomous practitioner, delivering high-quality clinical telephone assessments to patients with complex needs. Using advanced clinical judgement, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, you will provide safe, evidence-based advice and support to patients and colleagues alike.

You will play a key role in supporting and leading multiple critical workstreams, including Clinical Navigation, remote consultations, and dispatch stack safety. You will also provide senior clinical oversight across triage platforms such as PaCCS and GoodSAM, ensuring consistent, high-quality care and promoting alternative care pathways to reduce unnecessary ambulance dispatches.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to service improvement, mentor and support Clinical Advisors, and help shape the future of urgent and emergency care delivery. You'll also be involved in quality improvement projects, compliance monitoring, and the development of clinical strategies that enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver high-quality, autonomous clinical telephone assessments for patients with complex needs, using clinical assessment software and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Apply critical thinking and advanced clinical judgement to provide safe advice, signpost to appropriate services, or arrange ambulance dispatch when necessary.
  • Lead and support key workstreams including Clinical Navigation, remote consultations, and dispatch stack safety.
  • Provide senior clinical support to EOC staff and oversee triage platforms such as PaCCS and GoodSAM.
  • Promote alternative care pathways to reduce unnecessary hospital conveyance and support NHS system flow.
  • Monitor clinical compliance, conduct audits, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support the development and supervision of Clinical Advisors, contributing to training, performance reviews, and professional development.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and external services, including in high-pressure or sensitive situations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in areas such as mental health, safeguarding, and urgent care, and apply this in clinical decision-making.
  • Participate in service development projects, clinical governance activities, and Trust-wide initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
