When it comes to offering progression, many firms ‘talk the talk’. However, this insurer’s ability to ‘walk the walk’ is perhaps demonstrated by the incumbent Senior Claims Handler’s career trajectory – having joined the Admin’ Team fresh out of university, they have steadily risen through the ranks to become Senior Claims Handler and now, promoted to a Team Leader position, creating this vacancy in the process.

In addition to offering a myriad of opportunities for progression, this global insurer is also well-known for its friendly and supportive culture, and excellent office environment. Indeed, having traded from Leeds for 20+ years, it has solidified its commitment to the region by recently moving to perhaps the City’s most prestigious business address.

As Senior Claims Handler, you will build up to a caseload of circa 200 files and possess, depending on experience, a claims handling authority of £100,000. However, this team encourages Handlers to deal with losses in excess of their authority, by retaining ownership of the file and regularly checking in with the Team Managers; as a result, several members of the team are dealing with claims that have reserves of several million pounds.

This team deals with losses originating from a wide variety of industry sectors; the insured could be a large Construction business with an eight-figure turnover operating in a number of territories around the globe, or a sole trader operating from their back bedroom. This department’s caseload does have a bias towards Professional Indemnity losses (both traditional and emerging professions), but there is certainly a healthy variety of claims – you can expect to be also dealing with complex Employer’s, Public and Management Liability cases, amongst others.

In addition to handling claims, as a senior member of the team, you will get the opportunity to be involved in a variety of interesting projects, working with colleagues from across the business.

Joining a team of 6 claims specialists, 2 of whom are qualified Solicitors, we welcome applications from those from insurance companies and loss adjusting houses, as well as those from a legal background.

We are keen to hear from candidates who have exposure to either Financial Lines or Liability claims and, clearly, exposure to both disciplines would be advantageous. Whilst hands-on experience of some relative claims classes is a prerequisite, our client explains that, “attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and develop is of paramount importance.”

In addition to a generous basic salary and annual bonus, you will benefit from a highly competitive, flexible-benefits package that is designed to attract the best. You will also receive support towards professional qualifications, including study leave and time off to attend lectures and exams, as well as additional bonuses for passing qualifications. This insurer operates a flexible-working arrangement, where you will be welcome to work from home one day a week (and additional days being allowed on an ad hoc basis as and when required).
